I love everyone up there but they need to get their phone system overhauled. I call everynight to check on my father and sometimes it takes 4 or 5 times to get through if at all. This is a very important service for those who live out of town
On the other hand they are very good at letting me know whenever he has tried getting out of bed and bruised himself.. which is quite normal for him. They take excellent care of him and that is a huge relief. He loves the attention he gets from the staff also
Thank you to the staff.. you are amazing

If putting a known epileptic in with a room mate who plays the television at maximum volume 24 hours a day when it is common knowledge that epileptics need peace and quiet especially during nights when they are trying to sleep and then when the epileptic displays obvious signs of seizures, then ignoring these signs for over 12 hours, then refusing to recognize these signs, spastic flailing about of limbs and whole body spasms, when a family member came to visit and politely asked at least 6 different staff members to treat these obvious symptoms, then this is the place for your family member.

If after the family member decides that talking civilly to the staff is like talking to a brick wall and decides to call 911 to get his wife the simple and quick treatment that every EMT on every ambulance can and will administer to every patient experiencing seizures and the staff then calls the county sheriff's department and claims the staff all fear for their lives or some other bullshit complete lie, and 4 squad cars and 8 deputies show up even before the ambulance does, and tell the family member he is trespassing and escort the family member off the premises is your idea of skilled nursing care then this is the place for you.

On the next day the staff presents the patient, who obviously doesn't have the mental capacity to make any serious decisions, with papers to transfer her to another facility neither she or her family members had never heard of, then on the same day allow a clergy member of some kind to tell the distraught and out of her mind patient to not take any phone calls or talk to her husband. Then, without consulting the husband who has long standing documented medical power to approve the patient's treatments, and has overseen her care for 41 years, is given strong doses of narcotics evidently in an effort allow her to sleep in an environment with the television blasting at high volume 24 hours a day.
In addition to not allowing the husband to visit the patient, the patient's best friend has also been banned and told she will be charged with trespassing if she ever tries to visit her friend.

Then a few days after the husband was banned from the facility, the so called clergy apparently in conjunction with the approval of the staff, the patient who was still with diminished mental capacity plus under the influence of newly administered narcotics, was pressured to begin proceedings to divorce her husband. They even went so far as to ask her to have her husband send her $200 as a retainer for a divorce lawyer. Keep in mind that this woman and her husband had been blissfully married for 41 years and thought they were still in a happy and loving relationship until a few days earlier this rogue clergy decided to convince a very sick woman otherwise.

Cypress Cove Care Center – Crystal River, FL

“When basic infection-control is treated like an optional extra, people die.”
—Dr. Josef Kurk Edwards

My husband John Trompeter and I (Dr. Josef Edwards) both contracted MRSA after repeated visits to Cypress Cove while checking on family friend Susan Hendrickson (room 116-A). Susan died 23 June 2023; her death certificate lists complications consistent with untreated HA-MRSA. Here’s why we give Cypress Cove one star (and wish we could give zero):
1. Alarming Infection Track Record
• CMS public data show Cypress Cove sends more residents to the hospital for serious infections than the Florida and national averages. No focused infection-control survey has been logged in the past three years.
2. Zero Transparency During Outbreak
• Staff never posted contact-precaution signage, offered chlorhexidine baths, or explained Susan’s status to family. John and I learned of her MRSA only after both of us developed boils that cultured positive.
3. Breakdowns in Basic Hygiene
• We observed aides sharing blood-pressure cuffs between residents without disinfecting them. Hand-sanitizer dispensers in the south wing sat empty for days.
4. Paperwork “Gaps” That Risk Lives
• Susan’s discharge summary lacked any mention of MRSA colonization. That omission violates both CDC guidance and §483.80 of the federal infection-control rule.
5. No Meaningful Response When Notified
• Our written request for infection-control logs and staff audits went unanswered for 30 days—well outside the 24-hour record-access window federal law guarantees.

Bottom Line

If a facility can’t manage something as well-charted and preventable as MRSA, imagine what else slips through the cracks. We strongly urge families to seek alternative placement and report any suspected lapses to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) immediately.

This review reflects our firsthand experience and publicly available CMS/AHCA data. Prospective families should verify details and consult medical or legal professionals as needed.

Our Dad attended rehab here for approximately 13 days recently. He had taken a fall and needed care and support before making a long journey out of state to be closer to family. Our experiences were very good given the availability of beds and facilities (this part of Florida has very limited options which puts a large strain on providers). Overall the staff l, caregivers and nurses were very supportive and busy with patients the entire time. I visited Dad twice a day to support his return to an acceptable comfort level prior to his discharge. Partnerships between staff, patients and family is really the best option for supporting a healthy and workable experience. Food was very acceptable as well as cleanliness and overall care. Space is at a premium and modern upgrades are needed to make this a better experience for patients, families and staff. Although this was a challenging time for our family, we are grateful for the support we received! Thank you.

I notice you tell everyone that you would like it if they would call you. When my family member gets out of the hospital I will be calling you for a long talk. Also I notice you have reviews for up to seven years ago. Alot of things change over time. You should take down all those good reviews. Alot changed from two years ago . I will call you later

About this data
How to read this page
Star ratings vs. Care Quality Score: The Google star rating reflects visitor and family opinions collected from public reviews. The Care Quality Score is an independent metric derived entirely from federal inspection data — the two measure different things, and comparing them side-by-side gives a fuller picture.
Where this data comes from
All clinical data on this page originates from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that certifies and inspects every Medicare- and Medicaid-participating nursing home in the United States. Reviews are imported verbatim from public Google business listings.
