Beware! We selected the Estates at Excelsior under the impression it was located in a nice area and would offer above average services. We should have read the reviews! If a Zero was available, we would select it. The nursing staff seemed bothered to provide assistance. Communication from the social workers not existent. We attempted to transfer without success for 12 days... it was clear this is a for profit business. They pretty much kept our mother hostage. If you care for your loved ones...stay away... far away! Should be flagged by the better business bureau.

I would give it a 0 star if I could. My grandma was here for rehab. She always said they treated her badly, didn’t come in to check on her. Wouldn’t give her daily medication if they didn’t have enough staff. She went to the hospital for an infection, they called on day 2 “is she coming back or are we going to take her stuff out of her room?” No empathy. When she came back from that hospital stay, they didn’t give her the proper care following the hospital recommendations. She was unresponsive and they waited a day to call an ambulance. She died at the hospital. Do not bring ANYONE here unless you want them treated badly.

I was a rehab inpatient here back in the summer of 2022, after a lumbar fusion that went very badly at Abbott NW. The surgeon failed to secure data from a bone density scan, though I was a candidate for, and unknowingly had developed, caused my outcome to be disastrous, but that is another story.
I first stayed in Robbinsdale, ,and then to Excelsior for rehab, PT, etc.

My care at The Estates was poor, to say the least. The PT tech was rude, and practically scolded me for being hesitant about rehab,, though the pain in my lower back was, and is, excruciating. The next most important thing was the nursing care regarding managing my diabetes. They appeared to have no clue as to what to do, and once, when my sugar was over 350 (doing damage within my body a

nd leaving me feeling very ill, but REFUSED TO GIVE ME INSULIN UNTIL MY BLOOD SUGAR REACHED OVER 400!!!!! THIS WAS SO CRITICAL (have had diabetes for over 40 years). I called my cousin the next day to come and get me, and left AMA.
It was completely APPALLING.

The food was terrible, the staff would come to my door and ask across the room if I needed anything, then would disappear for another hour at least. And they clearly did not know how to handle a PT with insulin dependent diabetes. The room was a cold, light blue color, the TV barely worked, and noone seemed to really give a damn.
I was more than disappointed, and am glad I left when I felt it was right. My poor father, whom I had to move in with, had to help me souch bringing me food and drink, and helping me keep incisions clean and help me dress, etc...aged quite a bit just from helping me for about a year, until I could manage walking the length of the house, and doing things again for myself. It all just went wrong, and I am disabled now, require a walker, and have constant pain. But not knowing how to care for a diabetic, and actually REFUSING to give me insulin when I needed it, was basically CRIMINAL.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS, ESPECIALLY IF DIABETIC!!!

About this data
How to read this page
Star ratings vs. Care Quality Score: The Google star rating reflects visitor and family opinions collected from public reviews. The Care Quality Score is an independent metric derived entirely from federal inspection data — the two measure different things, and comparing them side-by-side gives a fuller picture.
Where this data comes from
All clinical data on this page originates from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that certifies and inspects every Medicare- and Medicaid-participating nursing home in the United States. Reviews are imported verbatim from public Google business listings.
What to do next
Data is a starting point, not a final answer. We encourage families to visit facilities in person, observe daily routines, and speak with staff and residents. See our guide: Questions to Ask When Visiting →
