Our experience at Castro County Nursing and Rehab started off with some challenges, and at one point, we felt unheard and very disappointed. But since the arrival of the new administrator, Liz, there’s been a noticeable shift—and it’s been for the better. Liz not only listens, but really hears concerns. She follows through, takes action, and has already made meaningful changes that have positively impacted both the residents and families. While no facility is perfect, it’s clear that things are moving in the right direction under her leadership. The atmosphere feels more supportive, and there’s a renewed sense of care and commitment. We’re grateful for the progress and hopeful about what’s to come. Thank you, Liz, for stepping in and making a difference.

This place needs to be shut down. My father left the hospital with no problems other than dementia, walked in on his own, and talking. He was there less than 7 full days. We got a call from a hospital (not the Castro nursing home) that my father was being air lifted to Amarillo and was on life support. They never told us. The nurse from the hospital called. We got no explanation. The hospital found he was unresponsive due to sepsis and pneumonia.

About this data
How to read this page
Star ratings vs. Care Quality Score: The Google star rating reflects visitor and family opinions collected from public reviews. The Care Quality Score is an independent metric derived entirely from federal inspection data — the two measure different things, and comparing them side-by-side gives a fuller picture.
Where this data comes from
All clinical data on this page originates from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that certifies and inspects every Medicare- and Medicaid-participating nursing home in the United States. Reviews are imported verbatim from public Google business listings.
What to do next
Data is a starting point, not a final answer. We encourage families to visit facilities in person, observe daily routines, and speak with staff and residents. See our guide: Questions to Ask When Visiting →
