Such a traumatic transition for my mother with dementia was eased and made me wish I had not waited so long. The team here, especially Autumn eased so much burden and provided much needed emotional and practical support that it far exceeded my expectations. My mother is adjusting well, and her quality of life is vastly improved. I never knew a nursing care facility could be like this, highly praise and recommend this facility!

The care team at Avir New Braunfels is truly one of the best in New Braunfels. As a Physician group Director, I can truly say that they are dedicated, compassionate, and attentive to every patient's needs. I highly recommend this place to anyone seeking care for their loved ones, specially now that its under new ownership. Autumn in Admissions, Lane, Admin and Bruni the DON are amazing and incredibly professional. Thank you, AVIR in New Braunfels, for providing such a wonderful environment and support for our patients. Our post-acute care team appreciates everything you do.

My family member (FM) moved in a month ago (after having our eye on this place for a year and a half but having to wait for his insurance to allow him to move), and it has been such a dream having him there so far. The staff is friendly, the place is clean and well kept, as are the residents. We noticed the residents have a lot of individual style, obviously aided by the staff helping them. The administration is extremely receptive to any questions and concerns, as well as quick with responses and plans to set up Care Plan Meetings to address the whole picture of the patients health. The Care Plan Meetings are usually every quarter but since he's moved in, we've had one a week because those meetings are a great way to get all on the same page. There are usually 4 to 7 staff members there including admissions, directors of nursing, social workers, therapists and activities coordinators, depending on what we are talking through. I've been given numbers to several high up staff members to call anytime, 24/7 if I'm having an issue with my family member or a problem. I can sleep at night knowing he's fully cared for and safe, with kind people looking over him. They seem happy that I call several times a week to check on how they feel he's doing where other places have found that annoying or interfering of us. One night, there was an after hours nurse on the phone who was exceptionally rude and unhelpful and they asked me for their name because they have a DNR (Do Not Return) list for the contracted nurses that should not come back due to stuff like that. They just need details reported to them to take care of any problems and like I said, they seemed grateful, not annoyed, for me to talk to them frankly about any experience we/I/my family member has there. I was grateful for the quick addressing of the issue and the reassurance they gave me, as well as after hours phone numbers for if anything arose in future. They can only fix what they know about! My FM has physical, occupational and speech therapy, including someone to assist them during mealtimes to ensure they eat as much as possible & eat smaller bites, plus a social skills/behavioral counselor to help him with some of his bad social habits. My family member is not the easiest to take care of, he can be a big grump and not very nice sometimes but it doesn't affect how he's treated there. They see what he's dealing with and give him grace and training to handle things better going forward. Another thing I'd like to mention is the Men's Memory Unit (locked unit) has a wonderful courtyard area that they can go to smoke or garden or just get some sunshine anytime. There is a giant sprawling oak tree giving wonderful shade and it's a peaceful, beautiful place that is just for them. They also have alternate food options which is great for my picky eater. We have him set to grilled cheeses every night and he's finally eating dinner now! If you go to tour, check out the giant calendar board with all the activities for the month. There are exercise classes, church services, shopping days, games, bingo and activities, movie times and they even plan outings for the residents occasionally. They can do some light shopping for the residents and I think they might have shopping days where they go out together. I am not sure though because my FM doesn't participate being in the locked wing. There is an HEB literally right down the street 2 minutes so it's easy stopping for stuff for my FM then dropping by to see him. Also, we just had a visit yesterday with a lot of the family and we didn't know this was happening but a volunteer was there making all the residents and family root beer floats! That so hit the spot and was such a nice thing for them to do for everyone. Anyways, we are thrilled he's there and can't recommend Colonial Manor enough!

About this data
How to read this page
Star ratings vs. Care Quality Score: The Google star rating reflects visitor and family opinions collected from public reviews. The Care Quality Score is an independent metric derived entirely from federal inspection data — the two measure different things, and comparing them side-by-side gives a fuller picture.
Where this data comes from
All clinical data on this page originates from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that certifies and inspects every Medicare- and Medicaid-participating nursing home in the United States. Reviews are imported verbatim from public Google business listings.
