  I've had to honor of visiting The Green House Cottages of Poplar Grove on several occasions. This facility operates under the best leadership in the Little Rock area. They always have fun and engaging activities for residents. The Green House model, from what I can tell, is the most dignified way possible to care for the generations that have come before us. I would place my loved ones here in a heartbeat!

  Our draw to this place was that the residence do not share rooms as they do in most nursing homes. They also only have about 12 residents in each unit, though my mom's only ever seamed to have 4 or 5 residents. This seams great except the problem is there is not really anything for them to do at all. My mother has Parkinson"s and is limited to a wheel chair, but she still needs something to do with her time. The facilities solution for my mother was to put her in a geriatric chair after she had several falls from her regular chair. With parkinson's, she also tends to hallucinate, and the stories she would come up with were crazy and concerning, The geriatric chair is basically a gurney on wheels. She was not able to more around by her self and every time I went in there she was sound asleep in the common area. They have no activities or games for them...ever, they basically put them, (there were a few being used in my mom's building) in these chairs so they don't have to deal with them. I honestly thought my mom was at deaths door, I did not realize was she literally being board to death. Her tv never worked in her room, despite numerous complaints,and the tv in the common area was set to one channel only. The nurses/ staff had a huge turn over and honest they were quite rude, and acted like she was a nuisance. At meals she has limited use of her hands, and they would not help her at all, like cutting the food up or helping her eat I would go up there at lunch some and feed her, she said that she was embarrassed to eat in font of her piers because she made such a mess, More than half the time when I went to visit, there were not even workers in the building. They left 5-6 elderly people in chairs they could not move in completely alone!! I had finally had enough after an incident with my mother in law who was in the same place, but different building, and decided to move my mom. Her new place has her in a regular wheel chair (she has not fallen at all). And they have 2 activities aday I actually feel like we gave here a new lease on life. The nurse told me they were feeding her (yeah!) , and they keep her so busy that the horrible hallucinations have subsided quite a bit now that she has so much less idle time on her hands. The nurses love her and she is so much happier. Please reconsider if you are only looking at this place because of the private rooms. Also, let me add, if you call to speak with the adminastator, she will not answer her phone, her voice mail is always to full for messages and she will not call you. back. The only reason she will reach out to you is if there is a money situation.
