Dear [Recipient's Name],
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the conditions at Villas at Poway following my mother's recent stay there, after her release from Palomar Hospital in August.

Upon visiting the facility, I was alarmed to find that the cleanliness and overall maintenance appeared severely lacking. The carpets looked as if they had not been cleaned in months, and there were unsightly stains and spills —possible remnants of food or other substances—trailed throughout. This situation not only creates an unpleasant environment but poses health and safety risks to residents and visitors alike.

Moreover, I noticed the air vent seemed to be coated in a thick layer of dust and debris, which raises significant concerns about air quality within the facility. Outside, there was standing water on the pathway, with what looked like moss growing in it, further contributing to an unkempt appearance and potential safety hazards for residents.

As families who entrust our loved ones to your care, we expect a clean and safe living environment, and we are troubled by the lack of maintenance that is currently evident. I can only imagine that there must be regular inspections of the facility, given the level of care residents require.

I urge you to address these concerns promptly. It is crucial for the well-being of all residents that these issues be resolved as soon as possible. Families like mine pay a significant amount for their loved ones to stay in a facility that should prioritize cleanliness and safety.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response regarding how you plan to improve the situation at Villas at Poway.

Sincerely,
Concerned Child of Patient

Social worker Nicole will make sure that if she doesn't like you, you get no help with your loved one. We told her that we wouldn't be able to accommodate the level of care that my MIL required after several small strokes. She was in rehab for four days, she had an altered state of mind and couldn't tell you how old she was, what year it was, or who the president was, but the facility was happy to send her home with our family because my MIL "Said she wanted to go home" and she could walk 200 feet. We expressed our concerns to Nicole, but she ignored us and instead listened to a family member that had no idea what her medical needs were, and who would not be providing any care or assistance for my MIL after discharge (She needs 24 hr supervision, and prompting and assistance for all activities of daily living.) My husband repeatedly expressed concern that she might have dementia, but this was always minimized or disregarded, including by Nicole. Nearly two months later my MIL is no better, and several doctors believe she is in the middle stages of dementia. Very disappointed in the overall care recieved here.

BTW the family member she was so eager to listen to literally kidnapped my confused MIL the day of discharge. Family member had a complete lack of regard for what her care needs would be at home. No medication list, no discharge paperwork, no walker (which they provided), no care instructions whatsoever. Then dumped her in our lap like we told Nicole she would.

To Nicole: Please listen to the family members that will actually be providing care.

This nursing home is one of the most ridiculous places. My mother was there for seven months. Her condition get worsened. My mother got covid this place and the same time They lost her dentures and abuse her for two months because she couldn't eat any more food. This made her even thinner and weaker. They took no responsibility for it. The administration there name is alicia she's very unprofessional and attitude and so rude she's the one we already reported her i would not recommend this place to anyone at all this place is elder abuse.

My father in law had to move here for 2 weeks after hospital stay to recover from pneumonia and low oxygen levels. We had not toured this facility and just chose it based on Medicare reviews. Our experience was outstanding! From the checkin to the checkout process, everything was very efficient. The nurses and the staff were very caring and responsive. They were on top of everything including his vegetarian diet restrictions. The PT and OT staff was amazing too. Attending doctor, Dr. Thaper answered all our questions patiently. Overall a fantastic experience.

Hard to find. Once you find the address, the temporary construction signs direct you the wrong way. People who work at the health center just point and say, "it's the down there," and "There's no parking, so just walk," when they can see I'm using a walker. When I get to the place, I don't know it's the back. I rang a bell and a couple of nurses I could see working inside ignored me and a manager (?) signaled me to walk around (even though she could see my walker). The walkway is not even, it turns into a drainage ditch and is obstructed by temporary construction fencing that blocks 1/2 the walkway. NOWHERE on the grounds is there a map of the facilities, although I looked at the tall parking garage, at the entrance, on the outside of the villas, on the outside of the hospital, etc.
They do not seem to have considered that some residents might have handicapped friends who want to visit them.

About this data
How to read this page
Star ratings vs. Care Quality Score: The Google star rating reflects visitor and family opinions collected from public reviews. The Care Quality Score is an independent metric derived entirely from federal inspection data — the two measure different things, and comparing them side-by-side gives a fuller picture.
Where this data comes from
All clinical data on this page originates from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that certifies and inspects every Medicare- and Medicaid-participating nursing home in the United States. Reviews are imported verbatim from public Google business listings.
