  We moved both of my parents here in the fall of 2024 from a nursing home in Covina, after we moved to Bakersfield a few months before that. Shafter was pivotal in making that happen for us. The place is clean and everyone is friendly. We feel that they provide excellent care and truly seem dedicated. It's difficult to watch my parents decline, but the staff has been supportive, and that helps a lot.<br><br>p.s. None of us ever lived in Covina. We lived hours away but it was the only place we could find with beds in 2020- Covid. When we bought our fixer in Bakersfield, we had at least 6 months before we were actually moving and in that time, I called EVERY place in Bakersfield (and even Lancaster/Palmdale) looking for beds. The exterior images of Shafter aren't impressive, and I suppose I am biased against such a small town in the middle of nowhere, but they had beds and we visited. The inside is nicer and the neighborhood around it is actually quite nice. It feels like a safe place. It was a blessing to find them!
